Classical Ballet has a tradition spanning 350 years. Ballet technique forms the basis of most other dance styles and includes concepts such as posture, turn-out, weight placement, poise, balance and line. Ballet is set to classical music and includes many beautiful and romantic ideas.
Pre-School Ballet
Over the past 10 years our school has devised a specialised Pre-School Ballet program. We aim to inspire children to love dance and music and at the same time develop gross motor skills, group skills and build confidence. Classes include dance concepts such as running, junping, hopping, bending, stretching, balancing and free movement. Ideas are presented in imaginative ways and props such as wands and scarves are used to bring life to the activities.
Jazz
Jazz dance is a modern style and includes dance technique such as kicks, turns and jumps. Jazz is set to the latest current pop music. Choreography is up to date and high energy.
Tap
This style of dance is about making music with your feet. Beats and rythms are produced by metal plates on the base of the shoes. Styles include those seen in old movies and performed by artists such as Fred Astaire, and also more modern moves.
Hip Hop
Hip hop is a funky style popularised by TV shows such as So You Think You Can Dance. The music has a strong beat and the moves have a relaxed feel.
Contemporary
This style of dance has a more creative focus and uses themes from everyday life as inspiration for movement. Dancers express ideas and emotions that can be transposed into movement.
Dance Extensions
This class is designed to be taken in conjunction with at least one other style. It aims to 'extend' the technical capacity of students. Classes include stretching, strengthening, turns, leaps, and some acrobatic moves which can be put into the other styles.
Private Lessons
The benefits of one-on-one training are significant. Students benefit form tailored instruction from their teacher and can then put this information into their general classes. Private lessons can also be taken to prepare a solo dance suitable for performance in local competitions, or to fine-tune examination work.
