Teaching Staff

Josephine Woodberry (Principal)
Josephine established the Brunswick School of Dance in 1997. She has a Teaching Certificate with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and is a registered teacher with them. She also holds an Advanced Ballet Certificate and an Associate Teaching Diploma with the Australian Teachers of Dancing. Josephine has over 10 years experience training young dancers, preparing students for examinations at all levels, choreographing competition and performance pieces, devising and producing large scale concerts and co-ordinating learning programs within the school.

Jacinta Murphy
Jacinta joined our teaching faculty in 2007. She has trained in R.A.D ballet at the Victorian Ballet School with Diane Parrington and in 2008 was accepted into the Victorian College of the Arts to study full time (Bachelor of Dance). She has completed the R.A.D Intermediate exam and performed with the Melbourne based Young Dancer' s Company. Jacinta has experience teaching Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary and Pointe and has choreographed many solo items for our annual concerts and competitions.


Laura Freelander
Laura holds an R.A.D Teaching Certificate and also has an Associate Degree in Dance. In addition to this she is also a qualified Osteopath which adds an additional dimension to her teaching skills. She has a special interest in pointe preparation and anatomy and is experienced at preparing students for exams from Grade 1 to Advanced level. Laura enjoys teaching Ballet and Contemporary styles.


Danielle Rostan-Herbert
Danielle is a qualified Fitness Instructor and has experience in both Jazz and Ballet Styles. In 2006, Danielle undertook a 6 month training program within our school to learn our creative dance and pre-school ballet teaching program devised especially for 3 and 4 year old children. Danielle is interested in creative dance concepts and fitness for the young dancer.


Jo-Anne Walters
Jo-Anne joined our teaching faculty in 2005 teaching ballet, but also has advanced level skills teaching Jazz and Contemporary. Trained through the R.A.D system, Jo-Anne also holds a Diploma of Arts in Classical Dance from the National Theatre Ballet School where she has also taught for 8 years. Jo-Anne holds a Teaching Certificate with the R.A.D and is also a qualified Remedial Therapist. She is experienced in choreography, costume design, exam preparation and devising solos for competition and performance.

Renee Von Senden

Renee has danced professionally in many exciting productions including Music Videos, Short films, Good Friday Appeal and the Commonwealth Games welcoming Ceremony.  Renee has Diploma of Performing Arts from Dance World Studios and specialises in Jazz, Tap, Hip-hop, Acrobatics, Singing and Cheerleading.  She has also enjoys working with students of all ages and has 6 years teaching experience.
Alexandra Andrews
Alex is currently studying full-time (Bachelor of Dance) at The Victorian College of the Arts and in 2008, she was awarded the prestigious 'Friends Encouragement' Award by the VCA Dance Department. Prior to this she spent a year at Point Park University in the US where she was awarded a full scholarship for dance studies. She has danced professionally with the Paris Opera Ballet during their Sydney Season and also performed in the Schools Spectacular for 5 years in a row (televised). She is trained in Jazz, Tap (BDA), Martha Graham Technique, Contemporary, and Ballet (RAD). Alex has experience in coordinating performances, choreography and working with students of all ages and levels.

Ashley Craven
Ashley has a Bachelor of Musical Theatre from Ballarat Arts Academy and has recently spent a year travelling Australia and performing educational musical shows in primary schools.   Ashley is currently completing her Diploma of Education specialising in Music Teaching.
 
Marisa Lawlor - Pilates Instructor

Marisa Lawlor is a VCE English and Literature teacher with a keen interest in health, fitness and well-being. She has trained to advanced level in Cecchetti method and has her Associate teaching certificate with ISTD. After a move into Contemporary dance she gained a Graduate Diploma in Dance and Movement in Education to add scope to her BA and Dip Ed. She has taught senior school level dance in both London and Australia. As a qualified and experienced group fitness instructor her teaching is now focussed on the multiple health benefits of Body Balance and Pilates. Marisa enjoys finding ways to help young dancers understand and hence take control of the way their bodies move.
