Performance

The Brunswick School of Dance stages 3 productions each year so that students may experience the magic of dance performance including costuming, lighting, music and theatrical make-up. The performances foster confidence, friendship and enjoyment of dance.

Cabaret

The first is our Cabaret performance in June at the Darebin Arts Center (function room). The Cabaret involves students aged 12+ (approx) learning Jazz, Contemporary and Tap styles. This is fun and informal evening with the audience sitting at tables and enjoying refreshments. Costumes are simple and effective and cost between $10 and $35 each. The evening finishes with a disco for students and family and friends.

Junior Concert

This is staged in November at the Darebin Arts Centre (theatre) and involves our junior students aged 3 - 8 yrs (approx). Each year we select a well known children's story and present it through dance. Our aim is to provide an enjoyable experience for both students and parents alike, and so the concert is short in length (1 hour) and there is only 1 performance. Costumes are a vital part of the Concert and are paid for by parents (expect approx. $70-100 each). They are professionally made and are kept by students after the Concert.

Senior Concert

This is staged in December at the Darebin Arts Center (theatre) and involves our older students aged 8 years+ (approx). The show comprises 2 act: a traditional ballet story for act 1 followed by a modern theme for Jazz, Tap and Contemporary. Costumes are a vital part of the Concert and are paid for by parents (expect approx. $70-100 each). They are professionally made and are kept by students after the Concert.

Competitions

Keen and dedicated students may wish to prepare a solo, duo or trio piece to perform in local competition. Additional private lessons are required and dances are custom choreographed by our talented teachers. Specially made costumes are required and teachers are only too happy to assist with the design and organisation of these.

Open Week

***In addition classes are open to parents, friends and relatives towards the end of term two. Of course there are opportunities every class at pick-up time to come in and see the students progress!
